Get Back to the Basics: Embrace a Natural Diet for Better Health
In today's society, we are surrounded by sweet, fast, fatty, synthetically flavored, and processed foods. As a result, we've drifted away from the true human diet. Many believe, myself included, that the further we stray from nature and the ground, the more our health suffers. To reclaim our health, we must eliminate processed foods—everything!
Avoid Processed Foods
Here are some examples of processed foods to avoid:
Snack foods
Pasta
Candy
Bread
Fast food
Canned food
Canned sauces
Cereal
Lunch meats
Most products found in the center aisles of the grocery store and many foods at restaurants are processed in some way.
Embrace Natural Foods
If it grows, it's good. However, there are some fruits and vegetables you may need to avoid for a while if you're trying to lose weight, such as white potatoes and bananas.
Grains
When it comes to grains, I don't recommend most, especially white rice and white flour. These products lose their nutritional value during the manufacturing process. Quinoa is a healthy alternative to most grains.
Meats
The same principle applies to meats. Organic, grass-fed animal products are the best options. While these products are more expensive, there's good news: our bodies don't require the massive amount of meat that the typical Westerner believes they need (a belief often promoted by the beef, pork, and poultry industries).
Fats
For fats, I recommend only three: organic olive oil, organic coconut oil, and organic, grass-fed butter.
Return to Our Roots
For thousands of years, people thrived on fruits, vegetables, nuts, and limited amounts of freshly killed, organic, grass-fed animals. In short, it's time to get back to the basics of food.
